  Herring, also called river mix, the body has larger scales. It looks like grass carp, but its scales and fins are gray and black. That's where the herrings get their name.

  The scales are large and coarse. Its tail is more slender than that of grass carp.

  The dorsal, pectoral, pelvic and caudal fins are longer and stiffer than those of grass carp.

  Black carp is mainly distributed in the plains south of the Yangtze River in China, and is rare in the north of the Yangtze River. Herring have retrograde habit in reproductive season. It has been transplanted to many countries in Asia, Europe, America and Africa.

  It is an important fishery resource in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and lakes along the Yangtze River, and the main breeding object in lakes and ponds. It is one of the "four major fish" in freshwater farming in China.
